Heya!
OH no.... amsterdam must have been a blast. Well, when we were at Berlin we caught some berlin culture festival and feasted like kings... haha, the world cup atmosphere was in the air as well like shuling said... the place was crazy... we were commenting on how the world cup stuff blocks the main sights... hehe... but the fake stadium damn cool right?!!
Singapore has a damn lousy weather now... raining everyday, hope you guys enjoy Germany... The crowd must have been crazy after the 4-2 win? Seeya in Singapore when you get back!

*shuling says...*
hey, hope u guys don't mind, i've taken the liberty of copying and pasting the e-mails exchanged between joanie and hans here. since they are related to our trip anyway.
yep, i got homesick while in munich. and decided to skip amsterdam and come back early. hans, being the nice guy he is, gave up amsterdam and weed to come home with me. or maybe he was just scared of incurring my mum's wrath. haha. nonetheless, i really appreciate u cutting short your trip, and sitting back in economy with me. =) the airline ppl must have been really mystified why you would give up a $10000++ seat for a $1000++ seat.
now i'm home. finally. been away for less than a month, but got tired of travelling i guess. but the moment i came back, i started to miss germany. half my time in europe was spent in germany, and because it's still fresh in my mind, i miss heidelburg, marc, miho and kai, miss the friendly germans, miss walking many many km everyday, miss the weather, miss the fun-filled packed days. now i'm back, nothing seems to have changed here. i guess nothing should have, i was onli gone for a month.
so let me be the first to write about my feelings of the trip. *caution: long entry ahead*
i started my trip in US, and it wasn't too exciting there. but i was happy to bring my parents to the places i had been before, to show them the US. then i flew to frankfurt to transit to take another plane to barce to meet the gang. a BIG thank u to joanie, gwen, hans and yk for coming all the way to the airport to pick me up, causing u guys to walk a really long distance to the busstop. really appreciate it. i love tapas! cos it comes in small plates, we can have a really big variety. i never got to try the squid ink paella, but i'm hoping there will be a chance in the future.
going to ibiza with joanie and yk was really fun. it was the shortest flight i ever took. we were so shacked out cos we stayed up all night at the airport for our 6am flight that we fell asleep the moment the airplane took off and by the time i opened my eyes, the plane was still on the runway, but on the ibiza runway already. the flight took all of 2 minutes for me. amazing. i enjoyed the beach, cos i love beaches. i totally loved the sunset cruise, even though i got a little tipsy from all that cocktail. the sunset was beautiful, the most beautiful sunset i've ever seen. and clubbing was an experience too. being the only asians there, i guess we were the exotic ones. joanie attracted a lot of male attention, giving us more free drinks than we needed.
meeting up with jerold and marc in paris was cool. and we had our unofficial 10th year anniversary gathering in an expensive parisian restaurant. it was really cool talking to jerold again, haven't seen u in, how long was it, 2 years? yeah.. really nice to meet up again finally. hope that u guys are enjoying your long holiday, though i can't help imagining how tired u will be, of travelling, of museums and of each other. =) meet up again when u guys are back ya? paris is beautiful, and moulin rouge was good too. though i have a little regret that we couldn't catch paris at night atop the eiffel tower, to see the city of lights. and paris is where we left joanie to carry on to germany. quite sad that joanie couldn't come with us to germany, girl, u would have loved it!
the day we hit stuttgart, we left for heidelburg to meet up with mark and miho. they are a german and japanese couple (the girl is jap) that we met on the bus to toledo. they invited us to heidelburg so they could show us around, and we took up the offer, and took off for half a day. it was a coincidence that we had also planned to go to heidelburg. i loved heidelburg! because of the beautiful countryside scenery, the weather, mark and miho, kai, (their 2yo unbelievable cute boy), the beer and the entire atmosphere. it's the type of place i'll like to migrate and retire to. haha. if we do go back to germany in 2 years time, we must must must go back to heidelburg to visit them again. and then we'll see mark's completed wine cellar (he has a wine cellar!), a 4 yo Kai, eat german sausages and drink reisling again.
in munich we went to berchtegadner for half a day and sadly everything was closed by the time we reached there. it was really cold and i couldn't really enjoy the beautiful mountains because it was misty and cloudy. the next day hans and gwen went to innsbruck while yk and i stayed in munich to do some shopping. and munich was where yk and gwen went back home, while hans and i continued our journey to berlin.
i really liked berlin too. because there was the berlin festival (even though we missed the parade). at the festival there were lots of food stalls with a lot of exotic food and stuff, a lot of performances. u guys should see the videos hans took. it was a fun atmosphere, really cool. and that day we had a continuous meal from breakfast all the way to night. we just ate and ate the entire day. haha. spent a lot of money, but it was worth it. on the way back from berlin, we dropped by the chocolate factory in cologne and walked around frankfurt too. i had a huge chocolate craving then and we ended up buying lots of chocolate! none of which i can bear to eat now.
after the long holiday, i'm gonna fly off again next week to taiwan, macau and hk. do give me suggestions and recommendations on what to eat and where to go. hehe. oh yeah hans, do tell me where is the countryside/small village place u said i should visit in taiwan. and if u guys want me to buy back any food, just let me know. i'll be happy to bring back food for u.
the musuems, buildings, gardens and other attractions were fascinating. and i do remember them. but most of all, what is etched in my mind is the times i spent with u guys. and sounds a little rou4 ma2, but i really enjoyed spending time running around with u all, seeing all that we've seen and experiencing our first ever backpacking trip. i know i got fitter from all that bag carrying and walking, and i will be trying to keep fit back in singapore haha.
hans was mentioning that now the girls have graduated, we'll all be busy working, and soon the guys will grad too and be working, then we'll all get married and busy and we'll not meet up. i really hope that doesn't happen. really. ok time to end the long entry. hope that everyone enjoyed our trip as much or more than i did, and hope that we'll do more travelling together in the future! =)

Hans:
Heya,
We've met up with Marc and Miho and both were very friendly and nice. They have a 2 year old boy called Kai who's really cute. So much so that Shuling practically filled her camera only with his pictures. Marc then brought around Heidelburg and finally ended up at their lovely abode where we had nice wine and had a look at their place. Really wished you were here to enjoy and have fun with us. Anyway, YK and Gwen are heading back soon, and Shuling and me are still deciding whether to head over to Amsterdam so we might be back earlier than planned.
Haha, speaking about friendliness, nothing beats our experience here in Germany. Everywhere we went, people were so glad to help us. I'll give you an example. We take out our map to look for directions, within seconds a German will approach us and ask. "Do you speak German? Do you need help?" SECONDS!!! And it did not happen once nor twice, it happens everytime we took out our map. You can imagine... easily 10+ times. In fact, just now we were at the metro looking for the way to the Beer haus, it took all but 2 seconds before some dirty ragged homeless guy approached us to give us directions without expecting anything in return. You be flabbergasted with their absurd hospitality... Marc and Miho apparently weren't the exception of niceness... If you have the chance make a trip here, I'll safely bet its the friendliest in the world.
Only bad thing is that the weather gets colder and colder, its also raining more often now. Which also contributes to the really freezing weather.
Enjoy your Hongkong trip, it should be fun too. Seeya back in Singapore on the 14th then! Marc and Jerold, seeya in August... haha..
